COURSE TITLE: The Studio: Tools of the Trade
Course Objectives:
From Tungsten to LEDs, students will explore the essential gear, hardware, and on-set practices used across film and television production. The course focuses on safe and professional operation of industry-standard grip and electric tools equipment used in production. Students will gain practical experience working within a functioning studio environment while developing the technical vocabulary and workflow skills expected on professional productions.
Course Learning Outcomes:
Students will develop an understanding of the purpose, operation, and safe handling of common film grip and lighting production tools and equipment, including rigging hardware, stands, carts, cables, power distribution systems, basic construction tools, and set support equipment. The course will emphasize on-set safety procedures, equipment organization, communication, and collaborative workflow practices as they relate to below-the-line crew positions within professional film and television production environments.
